Peugeot Specialists Information

A French manufacturer, Peugeot is part of PSA Peugeot Citroen and is the second largest carmaker in Europe. The Peugeot Family that started the company and precedes the current Peugeot Company started in 1810. Originally they manufactured coffee mills and bicycles. It was not until 1890 that the company developed its first internal combustion engine car.

In more recent times, the Peugeot brand is well known not only for road going cars, but also in motorsports racing such as sports car racing, touring car & rally as well as for manufacturing motorcycles. Possibly one of the greatest Peugeot cars that have rolled off the production line was the Peugeot 205. The Peugeot 205 was famed most for its rallying capabilities. These small and light vehicles were instant competitors against the likes of Audi with their Quattro rally car. Fitted with a 2 litre turbocharged engine, Peugeot won its first championship in 1984, this success carried through to 1985 season where they beat Lancia to the manufacturers title, until the FIA banned Group B cars for 1987. Peugeot remained out of rallying until 1999 there they returned with the 206 WRC. Like to 205 it was very competitive against the Subaru Impreza WRC & the Ford Focus WRC. They went on to win the manufacturers title in their first full year since retuning and defended the title in the 2001 season. When the 206 WRC was replaced by the 307 WRC in 2004 season, Peugeot lost their competitive edge and again retired from rallying after the 2005 season.
